The successful candidate:

Schedule: Monday – Friday, rotating 1st and 2nd shift schedules
Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Position Summary:

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmacy operations under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. This position is fully trained and competent in a wide range of pharmacy technician responsibilities across various settings, including:

• Inpatient/hospital pharmacy

• Retail pharmacy

• Purchasing and Automated Dispensing Machines (ADMs)

• Clean room competency testing

• Training and onboarding

• Medication history collection

In addition, this role requires specialized knowledge in medication insurance processing—on the hospital side, retail side, or both—and regularly supports these functions. While this position does not typically have direct reports, it may assist in coordinating technician operations, especially in the absence of a direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent (two years of college preferred)

• Completion of courses in mathematics, typing, and general science

• Meets all current State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements, including certification as specified in the Pharmacy Practice Act

• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of pharmacy experience preferred (or equivalent), with at least 3 years in a hospital setting

• Previous IV and chemotherapy preparation experience

• Experience with hospital and retail pharmacy IT systems

• Strong understanding of third-party coverage policies and reimbursement
