Duarte, CACity of Hope is an independent biomedical research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
Founded in 1913, City of Hope is a leader in bone marrow transplantation and immunotherapy such as CAR T cell therapy. City of Hope’s translational research and personalized treatment protocols advance care throughout the world. Human synthetic insulin, monoclonal antibodies and numerous breakthrough cancer drugs are based on technology developed at the institution. AccessHope™, a wholly owned subsidiary, was launched in 2019 and is dedicated to serving employers and their health care partners by providing access to City of Hope’s exceptional cancer expertise.
A National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, City of Hope is ranked among the nation’s “Best Hospitals” in cancer by U.S. News & World Report and received Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Its main campus is located near Los Angeles, with additional locations throughout Southern California and in Arizona.
Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.
Join Dr. Marcel van den Brink’s multidisciplinary team to explore innovative ways to treat malignancies using engineered cellular therapies. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a PhD and/or MD degree interested in combining novel rational and combinatorial synthetic biology approaches with computational methods to develop strategies to improve CAR T cell activity. We aim to develop and mechanistically study novel cellular therapies with the goal of clinical translation.

- Lab's Philosophy: We foster a supportive and nonhierarchical lab structure with an inclusive work environment, promoting open communication, and valuing scientific curiosity and creativity in a collaborative environment. While we encourage independent drive and curiosity, we provide an excellent opportunity to thrive independently. Our resource rich research environment enables research spanning basic biological research to the development of clinical trials.
- Innovation and Techniques: Currently, the lab consists of a diverse group of scientists and clinicians, including stem cell biologists, immunologists, cell therapists, microbiologists, and computational biologists.
- Career Development: Over the last two decades, the lab has mentored many postdoctoral researchers, fellows, graduate students. Dr. van den Brink has mentored over 60 postdocs, and several of them now run independent groups in the US and Europe.
Your qualifications should include:
- A Ph.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required.
