The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) works collaboratively with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals with hematologic and oncologic malignancies. Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, developing and managing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, managing treatment-related symptoms, providing patient and family education, coordinating care, and ensuring accurate clinical documentation. The APP serves as a key resource for patients and healthcare teams, supports quality improvement initiatives, maintains compliance with regulatory and professional standards, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality oncology care across the continuum of treatment.
The successful candidate:
Must be available to work a minimum of three shifts per quarter, with additional shifts available based on departmental needs. Schedule includes 10a-6p Monday-Friday.
Provides direct clinical support for inpatient services, serving as a key liaison between patients, physicians, clinicians, and the healthcare team to promote continuity and quality of care.
Collaborates with referring and attending physicians to evaluate patient needs, recommend appropriate interventions, and serve as a clinical resource.
Enters and manages patient care orders in the electronic medical record (EMR), including medications, admissions, laboratory testing, imaging, IV fluids, and other treatments in accordance with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
Completes comprehensive and timely clinical documentation, including histories and physicals, consults, follow-up visits, patient education, and informed consents.
Coordinates overall patient care, supports efficient patient flow, and facilitates effective communication among patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
Maintains required licensure, certifications, and professional competencies while participating in continuing education, training, meetings, and departmental initiatives.
Supports hospital and departmental goals through leadership, quality improvement activities, policy development, and other duties as assigned by the supervising physician or APP leadership.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
Required Qualifications:
• Current Georgia licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• For Nurse Practitioners: National Board Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
• For Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) through NCCPA.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) (if obtained through another provider, AHA certification must be completed within 30 days of hire).
• Maintain required continuing medical education (CME) hours and professional certifications as required by the applicable licensing organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Oncology nursing/clinical experience preferred.
• Oncology certifications such as ONS Certification and/or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) preferred but not required.
