The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) — Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant — works under the direct supervision of an Intensivist to provide comprehensive critical care services for oncology patients. The APP is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, coordinating clinical services within the critical care team, supporting multidisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring care is delivered in alignment with organizational policies, procedures, and the mission, vision, and values of the healthcare system.
The successful candidate:
Must be available to work a minimum of three shifts per quarter, with additional shifts available based on departmental needs. Schedule includes 12-hour shifts (7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and/or 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.), including weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Provides comprehensive critical care management for patients with hematologic and oncologic malignancies in the ICU and step-down settings, including patient assessments, care planning, diagnostic evaluation, treatment management, and accurate clinical documentation.
Collaborates with supervising physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, manage symptoms and treatment-related toxicities, and optimize patient outcomes.
Performs patient rounds, consults, follow-up visits, and assists with inpatient care coordination, including medication management, ordering diagnostics, and evaluating treatment effectiveness.
Provides patient and family education regarding procedures, medications, symptom management, available resources, and goals of care, including end-of-life discussions when appropriate.
Serves as a liaison between patients, families, nursing staff, physicians, and healthcare teams to promote communication, continuity of care, and efficient clinical operations.
Completes timely and accurate medical record documentation, including progress notes, assessments, and required clinical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives, staff education and training, professional development activities, team meetings, and departmental projects.
Demonstrates commitment to patient-centered care, safety standards, teamwork, confidentiality, and organizational values while supporting department and hospital goals.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
Required Qualifications:
• Current Georgia licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• For Nurse Practitioners: National Board Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
• For Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) through NCCPA.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) (if obtained through another provider, AHA certification must be completed within 30 days of hire).
• Maintain required continuing medical education (CME) hours and professional certifications as required by the applicable licensing organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Oncology nursing/clinical experience preferred.
• Oncology certifications such as ONS Certification and/or Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) preferred but not required.
