Pay Rate: $63.67 - $106.34 per hour

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Business Director within the Beckman Research Institute. Under minimal supervision and guidance, the Research Business Director (BD) provides administrative leadership for a broad area of Research Business Operations. Supports multiple faculty members, including department chairs and/or institute leaders. Incumbent directs daily operations through subordinate staff. The BD is expected to assess, plan and execute changes to daily processes to achieve strategic initiatives within Research Operations.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of research administration, including pre- and post-award grant management, budget planning, financial reporting, and resolution of funding variances.
- Direct the management of extramural and internal funding portfolios, ensuring fiscal accountability, compliance, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Lead complex proposal development and submission efforts, including multi-project and multi-component grants, while collaborating with investigators and institutional partners to support funding success.
- Oversee contract administration processes, including new agreements, amendments, workflow management, and regulatory approvals.
- Manage departmental human resources activities, including recruitment, hiring, employee relations, workforce planning, organizational changes, and staff oversight.
- Coach, mentor, and develop managers and staff through performance management, training initiatives, productivity reviews, and ongoing professional development.
- Foster strong partnerships with central offices, research leadership, and operational stakeholders to drive collaboration, process improvement, and business excellence.
- Lead strategic planning, policy development, operational improvement initiatives, and special projects while representing research operations on institutional committees and cross-functional initiatives.
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, business administration, research administration, science, or related field.
- 6 years of business management experience in an academic research or healthcare environment including 4 years of progressively responsible management experience.
- Demonstrated experience in supervision of mid-level career staff, budget development, grant management and space planning
- Master’s degree in business administration or healthcare administration with 8 years of business management experience in an academic research or healthcare environment is preferred.
