City of Hope’s state-of-the-art main campus, located near Los Angeles, California, is the shining scientific centerpiece of a clinical network that stretches throughout Southern California and the United States, including a new cancer center in Orange County and newly acquired facilities in Phoenix, Chicago and Atlanta. To better serve the local population of 22 million and others throughout Southern California, we have more than 30 regional clinical network locations. Also located on our main campus is the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, which was the first of five Beckman Institutes to be founded in the U.S. and has held a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center Support Grant for over 40 years.
Position Highlights:
The department of pathology is a large academic and clinical program with more than 65,000 cases annually. The department generates more than $900 million in annual gross technical revenue. The department consists of the divisions of anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, hematopathology, molecular pathology & therapy biomarkers, pathology informatics & data science, and transfusion medicine, and employs 400 FTEs and 37 physicians who are recognized for their expertise in diagnosing and monitoring disease. The department is also home to the research pathology and shared resources laboratory, which includes research histology, solid tumor biorepository, hematopathology tumor bank, research cytogenetics and research molecular pathology core services for a vibrant research institution.
There are multiple CLIA laboratories under the department of pathology located in California including Duarte, Orange County, and Rivergrade. In addition, there are COH enterprise CLIA laboratories in Chicago, Phoenix, Atlanta and T-GEN (Arizona) which work closely with the department and share EPIC/Beaker resources.

This is an excellent opportunity for a physician with a collaborative management style, who is interested in leading a diverse clinical and academic department focused on providing the highest quality services to patients.
Compensation Range:
$600k - $1MM total compensation (base and bonus)

The ideal candidate will:
- be a boarded pathology physician
- have strong leadership qualities and experience in managing a large academic and clinical pathology department
- have experience and interest in research, with a track record in research collaborations and funding
- drive quality, financial, budgetary, compliance, and regulatory efficiencies throughout the department
- have a working understanding of EHR systems (EPIC preferred), revenue cycle, program development, and financial management
