Its main campus is located near Los Angeles, with additional locations throughout Southern California and in Arizona.
City of Hope Chicago in Zion, Illinois has launched a national search for a Chief of Surgery who will provide leadership to our department of surgery in clinical, research, and education areas. The next Chief of Surgery will be a highly regarded physician with a collaborative, team-based leadership style, and the ability to leverage and grow our existing, nationally recognized surgical program. The Chief must also be operationally savvy, with the business acumen and cultural sensitivity to lead within a complex, matrixed organization.
Primary Responsibilities
The department of surgery at City of Hope Chicago is dedicated to the surgical care of cancer patients. The department includes providers across a variety of surgical services. The Chief position reports directly to the Chief Clinical Officer at City of Hope Chicago Walter Stadler, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.S.C.O.
The ideal candidate will be a respected surgeon with a distinguished national reputation. Candidates will be considered regardless of surgical specialization. The Chief should exhibit a commitment to the advancement of patient care, quality, financial, budgetary, compliance, and regulatory efficiencies, and provide leadership and vision for the Department’s clinical services in an integrated academic medical center environment. Mentoring junior faculty is an essential part of this position. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.
The leader must possess a breadth of skills, including deep knowledge of clinical practice, a strong commitment to training and the career development of faculty as well as demonstrated leadership and administrative ability.
Full-time hours working within an established team of medical, surgical, and radiation cancer specialists and other health care professionals
80% Clinical and 20% Administrative
Primary clinical responsibility shared with the Surgical faculty in Chicago
Successful candidates should have an excellent academic track record in education and research, as well as managerial or administrative experience. Successful candidates must possess excellent surgical skills, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Engage in scholarly activities such as clinical, translational, and/or social science research
Participate in leading-edge research and clinical trial recruitment.
Provide leadership, support and development of both department faculty members and surgical oncology fellows by actively participating in teaching, training and mentoring
Competitive salary plus potential for incentive compensation, and benefits including a retirement package. The salary will be commensurate with academic rank and experience.
EDUCATION, LICENSURE, Experience & CERTIFICATIONS
M.D. or D.O. from an accredited educational institution and boarded in respective specialty.
Minimum of 10 years of experience at an academic medical center or large healthcare system.
Required: Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery
Possess or eligible for unrestricted medical license in the State of Illinois
