Pay Rate: $46.44 - $77.56 per hour

This role is responsible to assistant the Department Director in overseeing the operation of the Coding Department and support transcription services of all Community Practices locations.  The Manager, Coding, is expected to act on behalf of the department director during her absence.  In addition, the Manager, Coding is expected to provide leadership and direction to a staff of professional coders to ensure that coders are coding proficiently, accurately and completely to facilitate the billing and reimbursement process.  In addition, the Manager, Coding is expected work together with the department director in assisting Compliance Manager to implement, coordinate and to monitor all coding and billing procedures to ensure the organization’s continuous compliance with the billing guidelines set forth by the CMS and Medi-Cal.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Responsible to assist the department director in overseeing the operation of the Coding Department/Transcription Services
  • Assist director in providing leadership and direction to a staff of all professional coders and medical transcriptionists
  • Assist director in developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures to ensure quality of coding function
  • Assist director in preparing annual budget plan for staff and equipment/system needs
  • Assist director in completion of annual employee performance appraisals
  • Assist director in recruiting new qualified coders
  • Assist director in conduct in-service training in coding and ensure that coders maintain proficient coding skills and keep abreast of all new changes in codes and coding guidelines set forth by regulatory agencies and conduct monthly employee performance incentive bonus review
  • Conduct medical records review and provide coding expertise to billers for claim appeals
  • Provide technical expertise and inputs to members of the Billing Manager team to improve quality of coding/billing operation and assure organization’s compliance to billing guidelines set forth by CMS
  • Perform surgical coding and assist as needed in other specialties coding
  • Assign surgical charge fee to new surgical procedures and submit charge to director for approval
  • Review and assist Information System Director in maintaining the coding system current in Pulse
  • Update charge tickets as needed to ensure coding and billing accuracy and to ensure continuous compliance with billing guidelines set forth by CMS and Medi-Cal
  • Act on behalf of department director during of absence and attend various committee meeting as needed.

Your qualifications should include: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (4 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with strong surgical and E/M coding.
  • Excellent knowledge in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
  • 1 year of experience in a leadership capacity.  Strong skills in following areas: Leadership and management, Communication.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC). American Health Information Association & California Health Information Assoc. Membership or American Academy of Professional Coders.
