Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. Position Summary:The Clinical Practice Education Specialist (CPES) serves as an expert resource, educator, and change agent supporting the professional development and clinical practice of nursing staff within the Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology departments. The CPES is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based educational programs and clinical competency activities that enhance patient outcomes, nursing practice, and the overall quality of care.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates orientation, onboarding, and annual competency programs for nursing staff in Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology.
- Identifies learning needs through direct observation, data review, and collaboration with leadership and frontline staff; tailors educational strategies accordingly.
- Designs and delivers evidence-based educational sessions (e.g., in-services, workshops, simulation exercises) to promote best practices in medical and surgical oncology care.
- Provides clinical mentorship and coaching to support nurses’ professional growth, critical thinking, and leadership development.
- Partners with interdisciplinary teams to drive quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Leads or supports clinical projects focused on enhancing patient care delivery, operational efficiency, and staff satisfaction.
- Promotes specialty certification and lifelong learning among nursing staff.
- Collaborates in the development, revision, and dissemination of clinical practice guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Acts as a subject matter expert in oncology care practices, surgical recovery pathways, symptom management, and cancer survivorship care.
- Facilitates emergency preparedness training, mock codes, and simulation-based clinical education.
- Participates in scholarly activities, including quality improvement projects, research, conference presentations, and publication of professional articles.
Your qualifications should include:
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Current California RN license
- Minimum of three (3) years oncology experience or applicable experience in area of specialty
- Specialty Nursing Certification, ANCC Magnet-recognized certifications as updated in ANCC Demographic Data Collection Tool® (DDCT)
- Minimum of one (1) year in education (preferred)
