Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. Position Summary:The Clinical Practice Education Specialist (CPES) is a dynamic nursing leader and educator who supports the professional development and clinical competency of nursing staff across the ICU, Hematology, and Evaluation Treatment Center (ETC) departments. The CPES partners with leadership and frontline teams to design, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives, clinical competencies, and practice improvement strategies to ensure the highest standards of safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Develops, coordinates, and delivers orientation, onboarding, and ongoing competency programs for nursing staff in the ICU, Hematology, and ETC units.
- Assesses educational needs and practice gaps through data analysis, direct observation, and collaboration with nurse leaders and frontline staff.
- Designs and implements evidence-based clinical education programs that support professional practice, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
- Provides mentorship, coaching, and bedside education to clinical staff to promote clinical excellence and professional growth.
- Leads efforts to integrate best practices and emerging research into clinical operations.
- Supports specialty certification and continuing education opportunities for nursing staff.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote a culture of patient safety, quality care, and innovation.
- Participates in the development, revision, and implementation of policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.
- Serves as a clinical resource for complex patient care issues, new technologies, and advanced therapies specific to ICU, hematologic malignancies, and urgent/emergent oncology care.
- Facilitates simulation-based education and mock codes to enhance emergency response competencies.
- Engages in scholarly activities including research, presentations, and professional publications as appropriate.
Your qualifications should include:
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Current California RN license
- Minimum of three (3) years oncology experience or applicable experience in area of specialty
- Specialty Nursing Certification, ANCC Magnet-recognized certifications as updated in ANCC Demographic Data Collection Tool® (DDCT)
- Minimum of one (1) year in education (preferred)
