City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. The Speech-Language Pathologist II delivers high-quality patient care and family training through evaluation, treatment planning, and the application of speech-language therapy techniques in accordance with regulatory standards and City of Hope. This role also serves as a rehabilitation consultant for complex cases, oversees student internships and clinical education, and leads the development of clinical programs and treatment protocols.
Note: This is a part-time position in both acute care and outpatient. Minimum requirements include 2 years of recent experience in a medical setting and clinical competence in swallowing, speech, language, and cognitive-linguistics. Candidate must be independent with Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS). Preferred experience in Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), head/neck cancer management, and Videostroboscopy. This schedule will include weekend coverage.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Screen patients to determine need for intervention and initiates referrals as appropriate
- Demonstrate intermediate level skills in developing treatment goals and plans based on evaluation data, rehabilitation potential, discharge plans, and in coordination with goals and plans of patient, family and other care team members.
- Demonstrate intermediate level skill and creativity in implementing patient treatment programs which are safe, effective, and efficient
- Demonstrate intermediate level skills in modifying treatment plans according to patient needs and progress, terminates treatment appropriately, and develops appropriate discharge and post discharge plans
- Complete evaluations, progress notes, reassessments, discharge summaries, and third-party reimbursement reports per established departmental, institutional and regulatory requirements within required time frames
- Collaborate with physician and other healthcare professionals to ensure ongoing integrated patient care.
- Assign treatments to rehabilitation services aides. Assess quality of care provided.
- Oversee scheduling and prioritizing of patient care
Your qualifications should include:
- Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited school
- At least 2 years recent experience in medical setting with competence in swallowing, tracheostomy, speech, and communication evaluation and treatment as well as Modified Barium Swallow Study.
- Current Speech- Language Pathologist license in the State of California
- ASHA Certification
- CPR Certification
- For pediatric service only, CCS Panel provider or complete application within 60 days of hire or when hours attained.
