City of Hope is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at the Duarte Medical Center. In this role, you will perform blood collection procedures on patients and donors in accordance with approved protocols, guidelines, and quality standards. You will also provide essential support across Clinical Pathology, including the Medical Oncology Laboratory, Outpatient Laboratory, and Specimen Processing areas.
This position reports to the Phlebotomy Supervisor and works collaboratively as part of the Clinical Pathology department to help achieve departmental and medical center goals.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws in accordance with physician orders, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions before, during, and after the procedure, and take appropriate action per established guidelines.
- Greet patients, process laboratory orders, and guide them to the next station as needed.
- Prioritize tasks to ensure prompt, accurate, and efficient service.
- Collect and deliver specimens for analysis using proper collection methods and handling protocols.
- Ensure all specimens are accurately labeled and accompanied by relevant clinical information.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of specimen processing procedures.
- Centrifuge blood specimens as required to separate components and coordinate routing of samples to the correct laboratory area.
- Maintain required logs—including maintenance and temperature logs—in a timely and consistent manner, according to defined schedules.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to meet departmental and cross-departmental goals, while fostering a positive and professional work environment.
Your qualifications should include:
- High School or equivalent (Approved GED)
- California Phlebotomy Technician License
- Basic Life Support CPR Card from the American Heart Association
