The successful candidate:

***This is a part-time role. Hours: Tues-Fri 8:00AM-4:30PM***

The Medical Technologist Coordinator oversees day-to-day activities of an assigned area within the laboratory and acts as a support and subject matter expert for the laboratory and hospital staff. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, State and local regulatory agencies requirements and smooth operation of the laboratory. Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures with speed and accuracy. Have a deep understanding of the theory behind each of the procedures performed and assist in decision-making and troubleshooting. Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory management.  Must be available to sign-up for on-call shifts and provide coverage for other shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Performs laboratory testing (quality control, patient and proficiency) in all assigned areas of the laboratory and ensures performance is in accordance with established standards and completed within defined timeframes.

  • Demonstrate technical competency in all the applicable laboratory areas and completing all identified testing/department duties within the specified timeframes.

  • Act as subject matter expert to assist laboratory leadership in process improvement activities, troubleshooting and decision-making in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.

  • Perform/oversee instrument maintenance, verification, qualification, and validation studies and assist with problem solving/troubleshooting of instrumentation.

  • Perform/assists with implementation of new clinical laboratory service lines.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accrediting and regulatory agency standards; provide leadership to maintain accreditation.

  • Documents and maintains the appropriate records required by the hospital and laboratory accrediting agencies

  • Perform/assist with annual review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and development of new SOP’s as needed per regulatory requirements.

  • Safety event reporting with follow up and process improvement where applicable.

  • Complete all applicable departments’ annual competency assessments and ensure continuing education requirements are met per regulatory guidelines.

  • Covers night and weekend shifts during staffing needs and/or when needed

  • Performs other duties, as assigned, by Laboratory Director, Manager or Supervisor

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Lab Science, Biological Sciences or related field from an accredited college or university

Certification: Certification required (ASCP or AMT) or eligible to take exam. Must successfully complete certification (ASCP or AMT) within 18 months of hire.

Special Skills: Professional demeanor, effective collaboration and communication skills ensuring teamwork with co-workers, nursing staff and physicians. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Above average problem solving and critical thinking skills.
