Pay Rate: $64.33 - $93.28 per hour

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.

With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

Are you a seasoned Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine nurse ready to step into charge nurse role?  Join our teams as a Clinical Nurse IV, where you will play a pivotal roe in overseeing clinical operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, and guiding nursing practice standards during your assigned shift.

In this Clinical Nurse IV role, you will:

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse IV for our 8-bed Evaluation and Treatment Center (ETC) at City of Hope Orange County Cancer Specialty Hospital as a Clinical Nurse IV in the ETC you will serve as a clinical and operational leader, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and patient centered care in a fast-paced environment that addresses urgent oncology needs.  This role combines direct patient care responsibilities with leadership duties, overseeing daily clinical operations and coordinating the nursing team to respond effectively to oncologic emergencies and acute treatment-related symptoms. 

The Clinical Nurse IV supports the staff in triaging patients, prioritizing care based on acuity, and ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and infection control standards.  The Clinical Nurse IV acts as a liaison between nursing, providers, and support services to facilitate timely diagnostics, interventions, and patient flow across departments.

The position requires clinical expertise, strong critical thinking, emotional resilience, and a deep commitment to supporting patents and families.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Responsible for mentoring and coaching staff, resolving conflicts, managing patient assignments and staffing, and participating in performance improvements initiatives.
  • Can assess patient conditions, recognize early signs of complications, escalation of care when necessary, and continuity of care through coordination with inpatient, outpatient, and palliative teams.
  • Administering specialized medications, monitoring treatment responses, managing central lines and infusion devices.
  • Maintains a safe, supportive environment for both patents and staff, promoting excellence in oncology care, and modeling compassionate leadership under pressure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation.
  • Prioritizes holistic care, addressing both the physical and emotional needs of the patients.
  • Serves as a mentor and role model to new staff members.
  • Delegates to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Integrates and practices according to the City of Hope Professional Practice Model to deliver care service excellence.
  • In alignment with City of Hope mission and values, the Division of Nursing and Patient Care Services vision and mission, and with continuous focus on the patient, family, nd community, carries out the nursing process, coordinates interdisciplinary care planning, documents according to standards, including validation of the patient and caregiver’s understanding of the plan of care and expected outcomes.

  • Sign On Bonus: $20,000
  • Shift: Nights
  • This position is also eligible for a night shift differential up to $6.50/hr and weekend differential up to $15.60/hr.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in nursing is required.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license.
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience (Urgent Care or Emergency Room)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association
  • Current National certification must be maintained to retain CN IV status. City of Hope (Nursing Excellence Department and HR) approve certifications which are a subset of ANCC Magnet-recognized certifications as updated in ANCC Demographic Data Collection Tool. (DDCT)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a caring and empathetic demeanor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
