  • Conduct occupational health programs designed to recognize, eliminate, and control workplace health hazards and diseases.

  • Collect and coordinate the analysis of dust, gas, vapor, and other potentially toxic material samples.

  • Evaluate ventilation, exhaust systems, lighting, and other workplace conditions that may affect employee health, comfort, or efficiency.

  • Assess exposure to ionizing and nonionizing radiation and noise, then recommend measures that strengthen employee protection.

  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety partners to implement controls and corrective measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions and equipment.

  • Monitor and communicate relevant federal, state, and local occupational health requirements to City of Hope leaders and staff.

  • Prepare hazard communication materials, technical reports, observations, contaminant analyses, and recommendations for hazard control and correction.

  • Conduct facility inspections, identify hazards, and recommend practical corrective actions.

  • Educate employees on occupational health, chemical and equipment hazards, and accident prevention.

  • Perform respiratory fit testing, ergonomic assessments, and calibration of radiation detection equipment, as assigned.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree. 3 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.

  • Three to five years of industrial hygiene experience, preferably within a hospital or research environment.

  • Training in air sampling, risk assessment, toxicology, and chemistry.

  • Current 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency certification.

  • Working knowledge of state and federal OSHA regulations.

  • Experience with air, noise, moisture, and light monitoring equipment.

  • Eligibility for certification through the American Industrial Hygiene Association is preferred.

  • Ability to meet the role’s physical and environmental demands, including prolonged standing and walking, moving heavy equipment or supplies, lifting 50 pounds or more, and working around laboratory hazards, chemicals, gases, low-level radiation, and emergency situations.
