A Staff Scientist position is available in Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. The Staff Scientist series is designed for career research professionals whose primary function is to support the research infrastructure and activities of the institution. Staff Scientists will bring special skills, knowledge and experience to research programs or institutional core laboratories. Individuals appointed as staff scientists will receive a one-year fixed-term contract.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Execute multi-step synthesis of small molecules using modern automated purification systems (e.g., Flash Chromatography, HPLC) and other analytical equipment.
- Collaborate with a dedicated team on the discovery and development of small molecule drugs and fragment-based drug discovery.
- Design and optimize synthetic pathways for small molecule candidates.
- Contribute to project goals by employing efficient synthetic routes to produce target molecules.
- Troubleshoot and resolve synthetic challenges to ensure high-quality compound production.
- Actively contribute to scientific discussions within the project team; report to the lab senior Staff Scientist and prepare and present research findings to project leaders and cross-scientific and clinical discipline functional teams at City of Hope National Medical Center.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment in strict adherence to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies.
- Ensure compliance with all record-keeping, data integrity, and regulatory requirements, including any client-specific standards.
Your qualifications should include:
- Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry (awarded within the last 2 years).
- Proven ability to independently perform small molecule synthesis in a standard chemistry lab environment.
- Extensive hands-on experience in organophosphorus and bisphosphonate chemistry within drug discovery research.
- Expertise in common purification techniques for small organic molecules, such as chromatography (HPLC, LCMS), and characterization methods, including NMR and mass spectroscopy.
