The successful candidate:

Responsibilities:

  • Developing communication strategies and managing execution including materials development, media outreach and managing internal projects teams including integration of plans across the Marketing and Communications department.

  • Managing outside writers in development of draft news releases, by-lined articles and blog post stories.

  • Developing and leading regular media relations training sessions for high profile doctors, researchers and executive leaders.

  • Developing proactive media relations strategies, identifying and cultivating key media relationships and securing positive press coverage that raises the national and local profile of City of Hope with an emphasis on innovative research and clinical care via traditional, , online media and social media platforms; building strong internal physician and nurse contacts; helping the organization understand how earned media works and deftly maneuvering within an evolving media environment that includes national, regional and local news outlets and blogs, as well as medical/science, consumer, business and medical/health trade journals.

  • Planning, creating and securing approval of a range of written content for online and print publications.

  • Achieving consensus on messaging by consulting with clinical experts, City of Hope leaders, as well as members of the Office of Philanthropy. Crafts media materials such as news releases, video, background information, key messages, media advisories, Q&As and other tools for use in marketing new opportunities to the media and to the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field

  • Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.

  • Five years relevant experience in marketing and communications plus 1-2 years of experience in a managerial capacity, including at least one year in health care marketing communications
