Pay Rate: $48.1 - $80.33 per hour

City of Hope’s Office of Philanthropy plays a vital role in advancing groundbreaking research, compassionate care, and education through strategic fundraising. The Director of Development, Foundations is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding foundation donors and prospects in support of key institutional priorities. Reporting to senior leadership, this role leads the development of grant proposals, letters of intent, and stewardship strategies, while partnering with faculty, leadership, and cross-functional teams to secure funding and strengthen donor relationships. This is a highly visible position requiring strong strategic thinking, exceptional writing ability, and a collaborative, mission-driven approach.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Manage a portfolio of foundation donors and develop strategic fundraising plans
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation prospects and partners
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, letters of intent, and donor communications
  • Ensure all proposal deadlines and reporting requirements are met
  • Conduct donor meetings, cultivation events, and leadership briefings
  • Partner closely with faculty and internal stakeholders to advance funding priorities
  • Collaborate on donor stewardship strategies and ongoing engagement efforts
  • Conduct research to expand and strengthen the foundation donor pipeline
  • Track fundraising progress and contribute to achieving annual revenue goals
  • Stay current on foundation fundraising trends and healthcare research initiatives

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5 years of experience in foundation fundraising, grant development, or related field
  • Experience in a healthcare, academic, or research environment preferred
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, including translating complex concepts into compelling proposals
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, faculty, and senior leadership
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and sound judgment
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach with a donor-centered mindset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor database systems (CRM experience preferred)
